Data science need some grounding principles

If, like me you have long been a fan of Peter Norvig's writing, you will be excited to learn he has just written a book about data science. Norvig, along with Alfred Spector, Chris Wiggins and Jeannette M. Wing have made a pdf of the book available for free online. The book includes sections on foundations, applications, challenges and concerns. Norvig is head of research at Google and is co-author of the popular book Artificial Intelligence: A modern approach.

Data science is a young discipline that has somewhat lacked a serious grounding. As it grows as a field, thoughtful attempts to tame it are welcome.
